Inadequate Licensing for BSc Nutrition and Dietetics Graduates in Nepal Causing Career Problems
Introduction
Students who have completed the BSc Nutrition and Dietetics program at the Central Campus of Technology in Dharan, Nepal, are facing career problems due to a lack of licensing, which is required for government job opportunities. Despite being the only institution in Nepal offering a program in nutrition and dietetics, students who have completed the program are unable to apply for government jobs as they do not have registration with the Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC), which is required for eligibility.
Efforts have been made to resolve the issue, including requests for support from the Medical Education Commission and the Ministry of Health, as well as filing a case in the Supreme Court, but the matter remains unresolved. While students have found employment in hospitals, the lack of licensing is causing them mental stress. The program was initiated in 2068 through an agreement between the Ministry of Health and Population and Tribhuvan University, and 30 students graduate from the program every year.
