EDUCATION NEWS IN NEPAL
Nepal’s Education Minister Ashok Kumar Rai has promised to increase investment in the education sector. He made the announcement while addressing a program on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of a local secondary school.
Act for Quality Education in the Works:
Rai said that “the government is committed to improving education in the country, but that financial constraints are a challenge”. He also added that “Nepal is currently investing 11.77% of its total budget in education, which is below the international standard of 20%”.
Education as a Foundation for Progress:
Rai assured that the government will increase the education budget once the country’s economy improves. He also said that “education is essential for infrastructure development and that the government is working to increase investment in this area”.
Cooperation for Timely Education Bill:
In addition, Rai spoke about the need for cooperation from all sides to pass the education bill on time. He said that the bill has been drafted in consultation with the teachers’ federation and that an agreement has been reached with the disrupting teachers. He added that the bill is necessary to ensure quality education in Nepal.
The education bill is currently being debated in the Parliament and is expected to be passed soon.
