History of Engineering as an Academic Course
The first ever school established with the motive of teaching engineering in Nepal was the Technical Training School which was established in 1942, and it initially offered a curriculum related to trades and civil sub-overseers program only. After 17 years of this establishment, in 1959, the Diploma in Civil Engineering was started by Nepal Engineering Institute with the assistance of the government of India. Then again, after 6 years of the establishment of the diploma course, technical courses like the general course in General Mechanics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting, and Auto Mechanics were initiated with the assistance of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany, in 1965. Until then, there was Technical Training Institute in Thapathali and Nepal Engineering Institute in Pulchowk. The college in Thapathali was renamed Thapathali Campus and the college at Pulchowk was renamed Pulchowk Campus, and the two different campuses got together under one of the Institutes of Tribhuvan University called IoE.
The Image structure of the history is presented below;

BE in Mining Engineering
Nepal is a country filled with natural resources, and many of them have not even been exploited. Hence, this recently launched four-year program was designed with a motive to address this issue and fill the gap. As such engineering can play a huge role in the development of the nation too, there is an increasing demand for skilled professionals in this field.
BE in Mechanical Engineering
The mechanical industry has a huge potential and increasing demand for changes. To address such demand and to ensure that the engineers are filled with project-handling skills alongside technical skills, the program is divided into four different categories; Automobile, Energy Technology, Hydropower, and Design and Manufacturing.
BE in Computer Engineering
In this field, the engineers will have the opportunity to learn about designing digital hardware systems like computers and communication devices. When doing so, they ensure that the software development is also aligned and in process.
BE in Geomatic Engineering
Engineers involved in this field work on developmental works, especially the works on land, based on the location and the condition of that place. They find the best place to work in, whether it is a terrestrial land, marine, airborne, or satellite-based habitat, and analyze, model, and manage the workable place out of all the surrounding places.
BE in Chemical Engineering
This is the first-ever engineering course related to the field of chemicals which was introduced in Nepal in 2015 AD where all the chemical reactions are analyzed. The highly skilled graduates working in this field could develop and design various chemical manufacturing processes and equipment.
BE in Civil Engineering
This course was designed a long time ago as it includes the designing, constructing, and maintaining of physical infrastructures that have existed in the world for a long time.
BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
This is also a four-year course with two different specialization factors one in the field of power and control while another in the field of communication. Choosing any of the specializations, the pass-outs and graduates will become capable enough to contribute to extracting Nepal’s hydropower potential.
BArch in Architecture
Engineers are so focused on their maths, physics, and chemistry, that there was a gap seen in the blending of traditional elements with modern aesthetic design, which became something in demand. People started demanding to build infrastructures and other elements but in a more design and aesthetic manner. Hence, architects started working along with engineers to help the engineers design the same thing but in a more appealing manner.
