Date: June 13, 2023
Introduction:
Education Science and Technology Minister Ashok Kumar Rai has announced that the government has embarked on the process of introducing the Secondary Education Act and the University Umbrella Act.
Minister Ashok Kumar Rai revealed during a recent meeting of the Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives that the government is taking steps to introduce two significant acts aimed at transforming the education landscape. The Secondary Education Act and the University Umbrella Act have been put into motion, with the objective of ensuring a safer and more conducive learning environment for students.
One of the driving factors behind the push for the University Umbrella Act is the concern that students are being deprived of their right to study in a secure environment due to the infiltration of party politics within Tribhuvan University. Minister Rai emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue promptly.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Minister Rai lamented the lack of adequate budget allocation for education, despite it being a key aspect of the government’s policy and program. He highlighted the unfortunate reality that the budget fails to adequately address the need for proper management of school staff, a matter highlighted in the aforementioned policy and program.
During the committee meeting, Members of Parliament raised several pertinent questions. The focus was on addressing issues such as the movement of school staff, ensuring a safe study environment within universities, and expediting the introduction of the Federal Education Act.
