Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah has demanded a written explanation from the head of the city’s Education Department, Sitaram Koirala, regarding the unauthorized approval granted to a school for running Plus Two classes.
It was revealed when Ratna Rajya School in Baneshwar began offering Plus Two science classes, saying that the decision was made by the KMC Metropolis Education Committee. However, during a routine monitoring check, the city authorities discovered that the committee had never made such a decision.
Following a complaint, Mayor Shah asked for clarification from Koirala, who claimed he had authorized the classes based on the committee’s supposed approval. While he was unable to verify this claim, “Mr. Koirala has been directed to submit his explanation within seven days, effective from last Friday,” confirmed Bhupadev Shah, the mayor’s secretary.
The unauthorized approval allowed by Education head Sitaram Koirala led Ratna Rajya School to enroll 22 students in their Plus Two program before the discrepancy came to light.
