More than 100 community schools in Solukhumbu closed due to cold

More than 100 community schools in Solukhumbu have been forced to close the school due to the severe cold weather. According to Birama Kumari Khadka, an official from the Solukhumbu District Education and Coordination Unit, a total of 101 out of 267 community schools in the district have been closed. Other schools in the area are also considering declaring winter holidays.

In Solu Dudh Kunda Municipality, 58 out of 62 community schools have been closed, along with 14 out of 17 schools in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality and seven out of 51 schools in Thulung Dudh Koshi Rural Municipality. Similarly, eight out of 19 schools in Mahakulung Rural Municipality and six out of 22 schools in Likhupike Rural Municipality have also been closed. In addition, four out of 36 schools in Nechasalyan Rural Municipality and four out of 39 schools in Madhya Dudh Koshi Rural Municipality have been affected.

Chet Bahadur Magar, the principal of PK Secondary School in Loding, mentioned that the school has been closed since the last week of December due to difficulties faced by teachers and students in attending regularly. Likewise, schools in the upper Khumbu area have also been closed due to freezing temperatures caused by rain. Tilak Rasaili, a teacher at Khumjung Secondary School, explained that the decision to announce winter vacation was made in response to these weather conditions.

On the other hand, all schools in Sotang rural municipality are operating as usual. Khilraj Basnet, the chairperson of the rural municipality, stated that none of the schools in this warm area have been closed.
