Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA)has initiated the process of digital KYC, aiming to digitize the KYC (Know Your Customer) required for the services provided by the telecommunication service providers.

On Wednesday, the Authority had issued Expression of Interest (EoI), international bids for the purchase of the system. The Bids were announced for the design, development, integration, implementation, operation and maintenance of the new system.

According to the NTA, the project aims at eliminating the hassle of paperwork users face when purchasing a SIM card from a telecommunication service provider. As soon as this system is implemented, no one will have to carry citizenship and the SIM card to the office of the service provider.

The project is aimed at building a centralized KYC system based on biometrics. Through which SIM registration and its verification will be done.

Under this system, all telecommunication service providers will be connected which will provide the information to the authority.  This system will be constructed in the authority (NTA).

This system should support information such as SIM card subscribers, re-registration, SIM change, ownership change, and additional SIM card registration. All the service providers should construct different register systems under this project.

Companies capable of providing the system as per the demand of NTA can apply till April 22. The company will be selected on the basis of the application and the system will be developed and connected, NTA said.

NEA has allocated Rs. 400 million in the current fiscal year budget for this project.
