The Ministry of Home Affairs (गृह मन्त्रालय) issued a notice today regarding the public holiday tomorrow (Magh 19, 2078) on the occasion of Sonam Loshar. The cabinet meeting held yesterday made the decision.
Who celebrates Sonam Lhosar?
Sonam Lhosar is one of the popular festivals observed in Nepal. It is a new year festival of the Tamang and Yolmo people of Nepal which falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice. Based on the eastern lunar calendar, it falls usually on the Magh Sukla Pratipada. The word “Sonam” in Tamang Language means “agriculture”. It has also historical importance where it is celebrated after harvesting the crops.
