Due to the extreme cold weather and thick fog, all community and private schools in Birgunj metropolitan city have been closed for a week. The decision to close the schools until January 15 was made by the Birgunj Metropolitan City at the request of the Education Committee. The cold wave has been causing difficulties for students in their learning activities.

However, some schools will remain open until ongoing examinations are completed. The severe cold weather has also affected normal life in Parsa, with an increase in the number of patients seeking medical attention for common colds, coughs, fever, and respiratory problems. Narayani Hospital in Birgunj has been receiving around 30-35 patients with cold symptoms every day. The cold weather has led to a decrease in the movement of people in the district headquarters and other market areas, as well as a decrease in the number of visitors to government offices.
