Kathmandu: Jeff Bezos, the founder of the famous e-commerce site Amazon, is going to spend 42 million dollars (five billion 57 million rupees) to make a watch. Bezos is going to spend a huge amount of money to make a clock called the ‘Clock of the Long Now’, i.e. 10,000 year clock.

This clock is in production in the western part of Texas. Now, the responsibility of making this watch has been taken by Beza’s non-profit organization Long Now. As mentioned on the organization’s website, this watch will be a symbol of long-term thinking and a reminder of humanity’s responsibility to future generations.

The 500-foot-tall clock is said to make a ‘tick’ sound every year, a ringing sound every century, and a full chime only every millennium.

In simple terms, this watch is a mechanical device that lasts for 10,000 years. It needs the Earth’s thermal cycle to run. The clock will have parts like a solar synchronizer, pendulum, chime generator, gear, and dial.

The clock will synchronize with the sun every afternoon to track years, centuries, and millennia. Likewise, the chime generator will make 3.5 million bell chime sequences to make different sounds for each day.

To celebrate the anniversary, five different rooms will be built. The rooms will be used for the 10th, 100th, 1000th, and 10,000th year anniversaries. In addition, it is said that those chambers will be sealed with artwork related to that time and future messages.

The idea of this watch that Bezos will build was conceived by computer scientist and inventor Danny Hillis. Now it is about to be made real. However, nothing has been disclosed about the date of completion of the watch.
