EDUCATION NEWS IN NEPAL
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Nepal has called on the government to address the rightful demands of teachers and end the indefinite school closure, which is violating children’s right to education.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, NHRC spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokharel urged both sides to find other options than school closure to resolve their issues. He also cautioned both sides to respect human rights and the rights of others while putting forth their demands and resolving the dispute.
The NHRC has asked the protesters to talk and be careful about violence during the protest. They also want the stakeholders and the Teachers Federation to improve education laws by talking to each other.
The NHRC is also unhappy with the new education bill and is worried about schools being closed indefinitely since September 20. They believe this closure is stopping schools from being peaceful and is violating students’ right to education in a peaceful place.
