PTE PREPARATION GUIDE:

To excel in any test, proper preparation plays a vital role. PTE test is no different, if you want to attain higher scores in PTE, you need a lot of preparation. PTE is a simple test, but it seems simple only if you understand PTE and how this Proficiency test is taken. If the test taker/student comes unprepared for the PTE test based on hearsay that PTE is a simple test, the test taker/student will face one of the most complicated tests they will take in their lifetime. Hence, the test taker/students must study or prepare properly so scoring marks is much easier.

Students might be wondering if the test would be difficult to attain so for building confidence, students must follow the guidelines for the preparation. That’s why preparations are required to make this one-of-a-kind test a simple, easy English Proficiency test. So, the question is ‘How to prepare for the PTE Academic exam?’

Here are a few things students or test takers should consider for the PTE exam Preparations tips:

  1. PTE is a Computer Based Test

PTE is a fully Computer-based test, all of the listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills will be assessed through a computerized test. PTE also marks their test accurately, consistently, and fairly. The test is taken on a computer and also will be marked by the computer. The PTE System has developed advanced Computer algorithms and AI through human expertise to ensure accurate, fair, and fast results. Preparing or studying with a computer will help the test takers/students gain the experience to use the device and the function without being flustered during the actual test.

  1. Understand the Question Types

PTE is not a simple English test; it is an English proficiency test plus PTE is an integrated test meaning in the PTE test the test taker/students can get marks in reading while doing a PTE Listening test. A PTE test is quite complicated to understand, thus the test taker/students must understand each question type to tackle them. Know which question type contributes to scores in which skills and time limitations help you perform the PTE test smoothly fulfilling all the criteria for scores. Explore the different types of questions and study them such that it turns out in your favor.

  1. Understand how PTE is scored

PTE is a fully computerized test; the test is even marked by the computer. The scores are fair, accurate, and consistent. As PTE is an integrated test, the scores are shared between different skill sections, and even at times, the number of questions does not add up to the total marks.

The test-takers/students need to understand that the PTE scores are not a mark but a scale. And different question types carry more scores than others as well as contribute scores to other sections. Like the Read Aloud carries more scores than Multiple Choice Questions and Read Aloud also carries more marks.

Understanding the scoring system helps the test taker/student understand which question carries more marks, and which question needs more preparation and time. Unlike other proficiency tests, PTE also applies Negative scoring in a few questions of the test; for every incorrect answer a mark is deducted.

  1. Know your English Proficiency Level

It is important that a test taker/students knows their level of English, to what extent the test taker can understand and express themselves in English. The level of English plays a huge role in determining the scores the test taker might receive.

Understand your level of English, spot the weak points, work on them to improve English, and enhance your level of English. Study basic grammar to increase your understanding of English. Level up your English proficiency in your PTE preparation and increase your scores.

  1. Set a goal

Set a reasonable goal after knowing your level of English, your average PTE score, and the time you have to prepare for the test. Aiming for a higher score is natural, but you must also set an achievable goal.

Set a goal that can be achieved with the preparation you make within the time you have for preparation. Focusing on a certain goal will help you focus on your set goal and prepare for it. Improve accordingly and try to perform your best in the PTE test.

  1. Analyze your mistakes

Spot your mistakes and where and how you make them. To improve the test taker/students must recognize their mistakes and work on them to improve. Analyze your mistakes and study the pattern where you frequently make mistakes and practice to avoid mistakes.

  1. Aim to Improve

Always aim to improve and study well. Try to improve your English skills before you give your PTE test. Improving is a part of preparing, and improving your listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills to attain higher scores on the PTE test. Expand your capacity and attain higher scores, more than you are already capable of.

  1. Enhance your Vocabulary

Learn or study more words and how to use them properly. If the test taker/student has a large vocabulary and knows where and how to use it, the test taker will score higher. The PTE test also scores the test takers based on their vocabulary; the test takers/students will score less if they repeat the same words multiple times. Thus, the test takers/students must know many words and should utilize the preparation time to build their vocabulary.

  1. Understand how the Test is timed

Every section of this test is timed differently. Like in the PTE speaking and PTE reading section, every question is timed differently but the PTE reading section is timed for the entire section. The test-takers/students need to understand how the test is timed to manage the time.

The test itself needs a long time to complete but the test taker or students has only a limited time of 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete the test. The test taker/students must learn to manage time by understanding how the test is timed so that the test taker excels in the test.

  1. Take Mock tests

Mock tests give you a realistic test experience. The test taker/student needs to study or prepare with mock tests to understand the overall aspect of the test. Taking a mock test helps the test taker understand the test format, question types, time limitations, and scoring in a short period. The results of the mock test help us spot our mistakes and help us understand how to improve on them.
