Teachers in Nepal have been protesting for the past three days against some provisions in the School Education Bill. They are demanding that the government should change the bill before it is passed by Parliament.
Purna Bahadur Khadka Statement:
Acting Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka has directed the government talks team to conclude the dialogue with the teachers today itself. He has asked the team to fulfill the legitimate demands of the teachers.
The teachers are protesting against the provisions in the bill that give local governments too much power over education. They are also demanding that the government should increase their salaries and provide them with better benefits.
Today, Minister Khadka of the Ministry of Defence held a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who is also the coordinator of the government talks team.
The main topic of discussion was addressing the legitimate demands of protesting teachers today.
The government has said that it is willing to talk to the teachers and address their concerns. It is hoped that the two sides will be able to reach an agreement soon.
