EDUCATION NEWS IN NEPAL
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized the urgent need for a significant upgrade in Nepal’s education system, including its structure, curriculum, and overall approach. He expressed these thoughts during the inauguration of the ‘South Asia International Book Exhibition-2023‘ held in Kathmandu.
During the event, Prime Minister Dahal highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education. He revealed that a school education bill has been presented in the parliament as part of these efforts. The Prime Minister also addressed the alarming trend of young students leaving the country to study abroad, pointing out that this poses a major challenge. He emphasized the importance of implementing effective education policies to retain Nepali students and attract foreign students to Nepal, believing it would prevent the outflow of both manpower and wealth from the country.
Concrete Plans for a Long-Term Education Strategy:
Prime Minister Dahal acknowledged that achieving these changes won’t happen overnight. He stressed the need for a systematic program and action plan with a long-term strategy to bring about concrete results in transforming the education sector.
Private Sector Support Crucial for Economic Growth:
Switching focus, the Prime Minister recognized the private business sector as a key supporter of the government. He conveyed the government’s readiness to collaborate with private businessmen, considering them stakeholders in economic development within the framework of Nepal’s policies, rules, constitution, and laws. He highlighted a three-pillar economic policy of private-cooperative-partnership in the constitution and stressed the necessity for intensive cooperation and unity between the government and the private sector.
Addressing economic challenges, Prime Minister Dahal acknowledged the pressure on the national economy due to factors such as the COVID-19 epidemic, global polarization, and conflict. He revealed that serious efforts have been made to reduce this pressure, conducting a joint meeting involving the government, private sector, development partners, and economists. The Prime Minister assured that the government’s efforts to improve the economy would bring positive results in the coming days.
